The How And Why Of A Raw Food Diet

A raw foods diet is the process of consuming foods that are unprocessed, whole plant based and organic grown. Three-quarters of the foods consumed should be raw and uncooked. It is as simple as eating foods in their natural state the way we were meant to eat.

Raw food benefits can be an increase in energy, emotional balance, mental clarity, better skin and hair, weight management and increased healing of ailments. The nutrients are delivered through the blood to the cells and the result is cleaner blood and healthier cells.

A better nutrition will return your cells to a more youthful state because these foods are easy to digest; our bodies will have more energy for healing and cleansing.  It also enhances your body’s ability to fight and prevent diseases because raw and living foods contain essential food enzymes that are killed if the food is heated.

Disease is a lack of health. Most people think that having one bowel movement a day is normal. But what waste does not get eliminated from your body through a bowel movement gets stored in your cells as a toxic residue. Our body’s digestive system doesn’t recognize cooked and processes foods, it surrounds the waste it cannot eliminate with water and then stores these toxins until it finds a way to remove it.

This waste causes excess weight in your body and the process of cells storing these toxins is called disease. Arthritis is a disease that is caused when around our joints become too toxic; we call the disease colds, flu, pneumonia, bronchitis or asthma when around our lungs becomes too toxic; around the stomach, we call the disease indigestion or heartburn; in parts of the body these toxins have been eating away at, we call the disease cancer.

Our cells are not able to function properly and diseases develop. If we eat mostly raw plant foods we can help our cells function correctly. By flushing out the toxins and replacing them with nutrients we can keep our cells clean and healthy.

A raw food diet can help you lose weight because most foods are low in calories, fat, and sodium and are high in fiber. Raw foods are high in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals. You can expect to lose weight quickly, consistently and be able to keep off the extra pounds by replacing cooked and processed foods with more raw foods. The weight loss will be mostly water at first, but if you combine your new diet with exercise you will start to see a loss in fat as well.

A variation of raw food diet is the juicing fast as seen in the documentary ‘Fat Sick And Nearly Dead‘, a short explanation of this is to consume nothing but raw juiced fruit and vegetables for a fixed amount of time. This will obviously result in rapid loss of weight whilst simultaneously revitalizing your body with nutrients and cleansing your body of toxins, this is something you want to do with caution…

The quality of your skin is dependent on what you put into your body, not on it. When you begin to eat more quality foods and less toxic junk you will notice your skin becomes softer, more firm and your pores will be smaller. You might notice your eyes will be brighter, hair shinier and nails stronger. The nutrients the brain needs are provided by raw food. You will feel more alert and have the mental stamina and concentration you need to complete tasks. A raw food diet creates a clean body which contributes to a clear mind. Positive thinking is increased and your emotional state of health is enhanced. This creates a more open-mind and optimistic view of life. Mood swings may decrease; stress calms and emotional ups and downs are balanced out.

The chemicals added to modern foods cause our body’s mild stress, pollute our mind and cause havoc inside the body. Imagine what all the hormones, pesticides and antibiotics in our food can do to the body after consumed on a long term basis. Recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) is a hormone that increases the amount of milk dairy cows produce. It has been suggested that although rBGH alone appears to be safe, it increases the quantity of other chemicals in the body that can cause cancer.

hormone riddled cowNo one really knows if the amount of hormones in a hamburger can be harmful to your health. The added hormones do show up in the beef and milk from cows and studies have shown that this makes the estrogen and testosterone levels higher than normal. But no one knows if that can cause increased risk in humans. In response to the lack of certainty, the European Union has banned all hormones in beef. Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the EU have banned rBGH.

The United States does not have any studies under way to prove the safety of hormones in milk or beef. Pesticides have been used by many farmers on conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. The EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) sets a limit on how much pesticide residue can remain on fruits and vegetables. It’s a complicated process that is difficult to understand, including variables such as the toxicity of the pesticide and how much of the produce people usually eat.

Each of the 9,700 pesticides used receives a number called a, tolerance. These chemicals are very toxic and have not been studied directly in people for their safety. Conventional foods that have the highest pesticide residue are; spinach, peaches, strawberries, apples, lettuce, pears, celery and sweet bell peppers. You can reduce your pesticide exposure by buying these foods organic or growing them yourself without using pesticides. Farmers feed antibiotics in low doses to livestock to cause them to gain weight.

Researchers suspect this practice is causing more antibiotic resistant bacteria, which poses an extremely dangerous threat to our health.   Companies are not obligated to provide the information to the consumers or label their products that were treated with antibiotics. The best way to limit your exposure is to buy organic products or buy locally raised.

The benefits of a raw food diet are good for the planet as well because fruits and vegetables feed more than grain or meat based products.
